The Role of MicroMUSE Mediator On MicroMUSE, I fill the role and position of Mediator. This is an office that was established in 1994 after Micro experienced significant turmoil following publication of some articles that brought a lot of new players to the community and pressure to change the way Micro had been trying to achieve its mission. In this role, my job is to help players deal with conflict between themselves and with Micro administration. My offline title is 'Director,' which means I'm one of the people who is responsible for ensuring that MicroMUSE achieves its mission. I am permanent chairperson of the Disciplinary Committee of the Advisory Board, as well as serving on the AB and Board of Directors. This means I read a lot of email, and write a lot, too. Disciplinary Committee documents are kept on its gopher page at cyberion.musenet.org. Online, I'm a sysadmin, which gives me technical powers to do my particular job and to help with other jobs like player registration and database management. I also spend a lot of time online helping mentors and teachers. You might say that I'm the "people person" administrator, because I get involved in most everything that involves the human side of Micro, but don't do much of the code development or machine maintenance that other admins do. You will usually find me in my office (#12345) or hut (#23456), both of which are open to all. On Monday nights (about 10 p.m. musetime) when I'm not busy, I often have people over for refreshments and conversation around the firepit outside my hut. Everyone is welcome.
